‘The Three Body Problem’, ‘The Regime’ and other series recommended for March 2024 | Television

A political satire with Kate Winslet as the protagonist. A period story full of ambition, sex and manipulation. Some neighborhood criminals involved in the largest jihadist attack in the history of Spain. Guy Ritchie’s universe transformed into a series. The new creation of managers game of Thrones. Among the television proposals that stand out this month there are many prominent names in front of and behind the cameras, and several proposals that travel into the past with different points of view.

Furthermore, the silliest and most absurd comedy is the queen The (completely fictional) adventures of Dick Turpin (Day 1 on Apple TV+). Mandy Patinkin is the best detective in the world and she must investigate a murder that occurred on a cruise ship Death and stuff like that (day 5 on Disney+). In Spanish fiction, Yolanda Ramos is a famous character undergoing rehabilitation in José Corbacho’s new series, A new dawn (day 10 in Atresplayer), and the network that allows thousands of kilos of drugs to enter the port of Barcelona is the center of the thriller Iron hand (15th on Netflix).

Among this month’s previews and returns (which you can check on our calendar), we recommend giving this selection a chance.

The regime

In the reviews of this six-episode miniseries, opinions are divided on some aspects, but on one thing there is unanimity: Kate Winslet, its protagonist, is brilliant and that is reason enough to watch this political satire. Will Tracy, one of the screenwriters of Succession and from the movie The menu, signs the screenplay of a story directed by Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs. Kate Winslet plays the dictatorial chancellor of a fictitious European republic, which she runs from a luxury hotel that she has transformed into a sort of personal Versailles, and whose paranoia grows as her country’s economy collapses. Hugh Grant, Martha Plimpton, Matthias Schoenaerts and Andrea Riseborough complete the cast.

When and where to see it? Monday 4th on HBO Max.

See you in another life

Gabriel Montoya Vidal, Child, a 16-year-old youth, was the first person convicted for the March 11, 2004 attacks in Madrid. His story is the underlying theme of a series that shows the Asturian plot that led to the largest jihadist attack committed on European territory. Based on the summary of the 11-M macro-experiment and on the interview that Baby gave to the journalist Manuel Jabois (and which he published in the book See you in this life or the next), Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo launch a six-episode miniseries that shows how petty criminals ended up being the enablers of a tragedy.

When and where to see it? Wednesday 6th on Disney+.

The Gentlemen: The Series

Without being exactly an adaptation or a spin off Based on the film of the same title, this series created, co-written and produced by director Guy Ritchie recovers the spirit of the film. Theo James plays a man who unexpectedly inherits a huge estate from his father which comes with a huge cannabis empire. Threats soon emerge in the form of thugs who want to take their share of the pie and take advantage of the new manager’s inexperience, but he will learn quickly. This series also features the violence, black humor and extreme characters common in Ritchie’s films.

When and where to see it? Thursday 7 on Netflix.

Mary and George

The story behind this period drama is real, even though it may seem like a lie. Mary Villiers raised her second son to make his way at court. Her goal was to get as close as possible to King James I of England and thus move up the social ladder. So much so that young George became the king’s lover and ended up being the first Duke of Buckingham. Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine star in this series that combines historical drama, comedy and thriller politician full of palace intrigue, sex and a lot of courage. There are already those who have described it as somewhere in between The favourite AND The great.

When and where to see it? Friday 8th on SkyShowtime.

Manhunt: The hunt for the killer

This thriller takes as its main theme the search for John Wilkes Booth, Abraham Lincoln’s assassin, to tell a story about him. thriller conspiracy criminal of the time. Tobias Menzies, the protagonist of the series, plays Edwin Stanton, a lawyer and politician who was the United States Secretary of War at the time. Booth, an actor sympathetic to the Confederate cause, shot Lincoln in a theater a few days after the end of the American Civil War, putting the country’s future in check. The president’s assassin managed to escape and a large deployment was launched to find him.

When and where to see it? On Friday the 15th, Apple TV+ premieres the first two episodes, followed by a new one each week.

Such brave girls

Kat Sadler is the creator and star of this BBC comedy about a family of two sisters (the actresses are sisters in real life too) and their mother. While the official plot doesn’t say much—an irreverent family comedy about a dysfunctional family navigating life with little judgment and a peculiar sense of humor—critics have highlighted her honesty and how she manages to delve into dark places. They also highlight Kat Sadler as a new comedic voice to keep in mind.

When and where to see it? Tuesday 19th at Filmin.

Royal Palm

Maxine Simmons is a housewife fascinated by the high society she meets in select Palm Beach (Florida). To do this, you will have to talk like them, act like them, dress like them… but being accepted by them is not that simple. A luxury cast led by Kristen Wiig puts together this social satire set in the Sixties and which shows the distance between rich and poor to continue in the wake opened by The White Lotus albeit with a different tone, style and setting. Allison Janney, Laura Dern, Ricky Martin and Josh Lucas round out the cast, with Carol Burnett and Bruce Dern guest starring.

When and where to see it? On Wednesday 20th, Apple TV+ premieres the first three episodes, followed by a new one every week.

The three-body problem

The science fiction trilogy by Chinese writer Liu Cixin is the basis of the new television project from the creators of Game of Thrones. David Benioff and DB Weiss, together with Alexander Woo (The terror) are the creators of this ambitious series, one of Netflix’s flagship projects for the first half of the year. The plot has as its starting point some signals sent into space by a secret military project which reach some extraterrestrials, who decide to travel to Earth and communicate with humans through a sort of video game. The cast is led by Eiza Gonzalez and Benedict Wong, and there are some familiar names for fans of Game of Thrones, like John Bradley, Liam Cunningham and Jonathan Pryce.

When and where to see it? Thursday 21st on Netflix.

Renegade Nell

Sally Wainwright, the creator of Happy Valley, is responsible for this adventure comedy set in 1705 England. After being accused of murder, young Nell Jackson flees through the streets, robbing carriages to survive. Over time she will discover that she is a fundamental piece in the attempt to stop a magical plot against the Queen of England. The plot may seem a little crazy, but the fact that Wainwright is behind it and the promise of lighthearted entertainment are plenty of reasons to have this series on your radar.

When and where to see it? Friday 29th on Disney+.
